Product Description
2024 aluminum is a high-strength hard aluminum alloy that can be strengthened through heat treatment and belongs to the aluminum-copper-magnesium series of alloys. This material has medium plasticity in quenched and cold working hardened states, good weldability but weak corrosion resistance, and is often enhanced for protection through anodic oxidation or aluminum coating. Its typical applications cover the aerospace field, mainly used for manufacturing high-load structural components such as aircraft frames, skins, and wing beams that operate below 150℃. By 2025, the tensile strength of this alloy can reach 472MPa and the yield strength can reach 325MPa.
Material properties
The 2024 aluminum material has medium plasticity in both quenched and freshly quenched states, and has good spot welding performance, but gas welding is prone to intergranular cracks. Its cutting performance is better after cold work hardening, but significantly decreases after annealing. It has relatively weak corrosion resistance and is conventionally protected by anodizing, painting or coating with a pure aluminum layer.
Chemical composition
The alloy composition mainly consists of copper (3.8-4.9%) and magnesium (1.2-1.8%) as strengthening elements, with small amounts of silicon, iron, manganese, chromium, etc.
As of 2025, the data shows that the main components are:
Copper: 3.8-4.9%
Magnesium: 1.2-1.8%
Manganese: 0.3-0.9%
The total amount of other elements is less than 1%
Mechanical properties
According to the latest test data in 2025:
Tensile strength: ≥425MPa
Yield strength: ≥275MPa
Elongation: 10%
Hardness: 120HB
Application field
Widely applied in the aerospace industry:
1.The main load-bearing components of the aircraft: frame, wing beam, spacer frame, etc
2.Surface covering: fuselage skin
3.Connecting components: High-strength rivets
4.Other fields: Missile components, truck wheels
